System News Release: UT Regents Receive Fourth Settlement in Patent
Suit
The Board of Regents of The University of Texas
System has reached a settlement in a patent infringement lawsuit
against VK Corporation and VK Mobile USA, Inc. VK, a Korea-based
company, settled under the Board of Regents' established licensing
terms.

System has reached a settlement in a patent infringement lawsuit
against Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. and Philips Electronics
North America Corp. The terms of this settlement are confidential
and will not be made public.

Research in Motion, maker of the popular RIM
Blackberry devices, paid the Board of Regents $1.8 million. A
portion of this amount was in the form of an unrestricted research
grant to The University of Texas at Arlington.

System Statement: UT Regents Pursue Patent Infringement Litigation
in United States District Court
The Board of Regents of
The University of Texas System on Thursday (March 10) authorized
litigation to enforce the "character pattern recognition and
communications apparatus" patent covering software invented by Dr.
George Kondraske, professor of electrical and biomedical engineering
at UT Arlington.
